عِذارٌ خَطَّ في الوجناتِ خطًّا
حوىcaptivated كلَّall الأنامِhumankind بهwith it وفاقَاand surpassed
حوى كلَّ الأنامِ به وفاقَا
Cheek-down traced a line upon his cheeks;
A cheek has etched a line in the cheeks
with it, he captivated all humankind and outshone them.
It has encompassed all people in beauty and elegance
ترىyou see الأبصارَthe eyes شاخصةًfixed in a stare إليهtoward him
ترى الأبصارَ شاخصةً إليه
وماءَand the water الحسنِof beauty فيin خدَّيهِhis two cheeks راقَاgrew clear
وماءَ الحسنِ في خدَّيهِ راقَا
You see eyes fixed upon him,
Eyes gaze at it longingly
and beauty’s water gleaming clear in his cheeks.
While the water of beauty on his cheeks flows gently
تصوَّرتْwere reflected العيونُthe eyes بهin it فأمسىso he became
تصوَّرتْ العيونُ به فأمسى
كأنَّas though عليهupon him منof حدقٍpupils نِطاقاa girdle
كأنَّ عليه من حدقٍ نِطاقا
Eyes were reflected in it, so he came to seem
Eyes have pictured him, so he has become
as though he wore a girdle made of pupils.
As if there were on him a ring of eyes fixed on him
