And a caravan of wishes crossed, borne by my resolve, with no
With determination, I crossed the bridge of my journey's purpose,
Bridges but pale camels amid seas of mirage.
Though it had no poles but faith in a sea of tribulation.

Upon them I passed a dwelling whose traces had faded;
I crossed a land whose ways had become crooked,
Every black, downpouring cloud had battered it relentlessly.
Assailed by every rogue and charlatan.

To a Kaaba that is now visited, yet has never paid a visit;
To a Kaaba which I used to visit but hasn't been visited,
My hope has circled around it for years.
Around which my hopes revolve since time immemorial.
أقُولI say لهاto it لمَّاwhen تبَّدىhe appeared لناظِرِيbefore my eyes
تَمِيسُsways عُلاهُhis glory ليfor me مَلابِسِrobes إجْلالِreverence
I say to it, when he appeared before my eyes,
When it appeared before my eyes, I said to it,
His glory swaying for me in robes of reverence:
Its lofty aspect clothes me in solemnity.
أتيْتُكI came to you منof كلِّevery الوسائِلِthe means of approach مُحْرِماًdivested, as a consecrated pilgrim
وألْبَسْتُand I clothed وَجْهَthe face of الأرضِthe earth سابِغَlong-flowing أذْيالِtrailing hems
I came to you as a pilgrim, stripped of every means of approach,
I came to you prohibited from all means,
And clothed the face of the earth in long, trailing hems.
And clothed the face of the earth in trailing robes.
