أَبوناour father قالsaid بالسابقlong ago وَجدنايand our grandfather
أَبونا قال بالسابق وَجدناي
لاجلfor the sake of الحَربwar فيin الدُنياthis world وَجدنايwe were brought into being
لاجل الحَرب في الدُنيا وَجدناي
Our father and grandfather said long ago:
We were brought into this world for war.
سمحناwe gave freely بِالدَمwith blood الغاليprecious وَجدنايand we gave generously
سمحنا بِالدَم الغالي وَجدناي
وَجاناand came to us العزglory منfrom بيضwhite الضباsword blades
وَجانا العز من بيض الضبا
We freely offered our precious blood and gave generously,
And glory came to us from gleaming white sword blades.
الشوادرthe tents بالفرسon the mare لصلI shall reach وَصيدهاtheir threshold
الشوادر بالفرس لصل وَصيدها
وَاخطفand snatch رُوحthe soul هالباشاthis pasha وَصيدهاand capture it
وَاخطف رُوح هالباشا وَصيدها
On the mare, I shall reach the tents’ threshold,
And snatch this pasha’s soul and capture it.
يمتعبO Mut‘ib وقفhalt الحملةthe expedition وَصدهاand repel it
يمتعب وقف الحملة وَصدها
وَخليand let النارthe fire تزعقroar للسماto the sky
وَخلي النار تزعق للسما
O Mut‘ib, halt the expedition and repel it,
And let the fire roar up to the sky.
