By God, O you who never disappoint those who seek you.

O rescuer of the wronged and the stricken,

O rescuer of the wronged, have mercy on my abasement.

O you of vast reach, vast expanse, and a wide door,

O you of boundless, open expanse, O Creator,

O Living One, O worshipped One, O Bestower,

O Living One, O worshipped One, relieve my anguish.

By the honor of the Prophet and the four spiritual poles.

By the honor of the four poles, grant me relief,

And free my foot from the bondage of chains.

After chivalry, generosity, and manly honor,

We ended up disgraced in the land of strangers.

Alas, we ended up caught between Hana and Mana,

After our beards had been those of honorable men.

O Living One, O worshipped One, do not forget us.

You are generous, and whoever seeks you is never disappointed.

You are generous, and your petitioner is wearied.

O God, free the wearied necks.

By the honor of the chosen Prophet and his Companions,

Open for us a door from the sea of your bounty.

Open for us a path from the sea of your bounty.

O God, ease my path in secret,

Without worry on our minds, or exile.

Our thoughts about our family are gloomy.

Our thoughts are of our family in the homeland.

O God, set our wind blowing and turn it.

All night and all day, we are bewildered,

With no relief but tears pouring down.

My tears pour over separation, streaming down.

And the wound has found no cure, flowing in cascades.

O God, O Lord of lofty worth,

Command the return of those who went away.

    وَاللي أَبر سمة ذاكَ طَفيف نارو

    The one who went to Crete—his home was ruined;

    And the one—[abr sima: unclear]—his fire burns low;

And those on Rhodes have sunk amid the seas.

My band is in Izmir, and the administrator is Shihabi.

In Izmir is my band of wise elders.

O Lord, O God, generous toward the wise,

News of our companions reached me and sent his wits flying.

It is no true report—by God, the news is false:

That the Druze have been seized in batches,

They came down to Beirut with the timbers,

And were scattered in the land of strangers.

    Some ended up near Bir Ghurab;

    وَالبَعض في أَزمير قالوا قلعة

    Some of them are in al-Shana and the citadel;

Some are in Izmir—in a fortress, they said.

With a rose whose plucking and uprooting were not permitted.

Alas, O pride of the mountain, to be stricken!

Alas, O pride of the mountain, to be tormented!

After they had been its pride and its people.

What can I do about those who abandoned them—the ones responsible?

The men of petitions rode the hero sidesaddle.

The men of petitions rode the hero and turned about.

And when he agrees with them, they come to his home.

And many of us turned to his judgment.

If it pleases you—or else, toward other [atabi: unclear].

You are to agree with us on the path we take,

And put your seal on the petitions with us.

And they move our faction backward and forward.

Until vultures and crows cry out there,

Until the roc and the owls cry out there.

How often I look toward my companions and gesture!

Everyone refused to heed my counsel.

And his fortunes ended in defeat.

Alas, O pride of the mountain, brought low!

After it had been a cave for the humiliated.

O God, by the honor of the intercessor and Hani,

You who revive the bones after they turn to dust,

You summon the bone after it is broken, and are its mender.

O God, mend my heart, O Mender.

O God, my home in Nasib and Jabir

    Is lovelier than Izmir, which the prophet built;

Lovelier than Izmir, the sea, and the harbor.

Look at the land where we grew up.

A vow is upon me, if we return and come back:

I will slaughter a ram for God's sake, by force.

I will slaughter a ram and decorate the walls,

And say, 'O Time, time has raised me.'

O God, O worshipped One, O One above,

Bring forth our good fortune after it has vanished.

O God, turn the wind of the honorable men,

And gather us from every mountain pass and land.
