صحائفpages زانهاhe adorned them خطاin handwriting وضبطاand in accurate vocalization
صحائف زانها خطا وضبطا
Through Khattab, endowed with refinement, rose aloft
With eloquent diction a discourse excelled
pages he adorned with script and precise diacritics.
Pages adorned with lines precise and spelled
فلوfor if نطقspoke الطروسthe sheets لفضلتهthey would deem him superior
فلو نطق الطروس لفضلته
وقالتand they would say أجودthe finest الكتابof the scribes خطاin handwriting
وقالت أجود الكتاب خطا
For if the sheets could speak, they would deem him superior,
If roosters could speak they would praise it as well
and say, “He has the finest handwriting of all scribes.”
And say the finest writing they beheld
