لوif نطقتspoke مصرناour Egypt لقالتshe would say
لو نطقت مصرنا لقالت
ياO ملكking العصرthe age والأقالمand the pens
يا ملك العصر والأقالم
If our Egypt spoke, she would say:
If Egypt could speak, she would say,
O king of the age and the pens,
O king of the era and the pens,
سواهother than him أدبهchastise him بلrather أذبهmelt him
سواه أدبه بل أذبه
واجعلهand make him للهالكينfor the doomed خاتمa seal; the last
واجعله للهالكين خاتم
Chastise the one other than him—rather, melt him,
None but he whose morals were great, rather, whose generosity was vast,
And make him the seal of the doomed.
Make him the seal for those who pass away.
