حَيَّاكَgreets you ثغرُmouth الحَيَاthe rain النَّظِيمُfinely strung
فِيin رَوْضَةٍa garden وَجْهُهَاits face وَسِيمُfair
The rain’s finely strung mouth greets you
Greetings to you, o refined mouth of life,
In a garden whose face is fair.
In a garden whose face is beautiful,
صَحَّتْwere healthy بِهَاin it القُضْبُthe boughs فيin التثنِّيswaying
فَاعْتَلَّso fell ill فِيin وَجْهِهَاits face النَّسِيمُthe breeze
There the boughs were sound in their swaying,
The branches flourished with it, bending over,
So the breeze fell ill upon its face.
As the breeze rose on her face,
وَقَامَand arose فِيin أيْكِهَاits grove خَطِيبٌan orator
عِنْدِيI have لَهُfor him المُقعِدwhat makes one sit المُقِيمُwhat makes one stand
And an orator arose within its grove;
And a preacher stood in her bosom,
For him I have what makes him sit and stand.
For him I have a permanent seat.
