يَا زهرَ روضٍ يُقْتَطَفْ

يَا زهرَ روضٍ يُقْتَطَفْ

وَهلاَلَ تَمٍّ فِي سُدَفْ

وَهلاَلَ تَمٍّ فِي سُدَفْ

O garden blossom to be plucked,

O flower of the garden to be plucked

And full moon in the gloom,

And crescent of perfection in elegance

اشرب هَنيئاً فَالطِّلاَ

اشرب هَنيئاً فَالطِّلاَ

أحلى شَراب يُرْتَشَفْ

أحلى شَراب يُرْتَشَفْ

Drink with delight, for wine

Drink happily, for sweetness

Is the sweetest drink to be sipped.

Is the finest drink to be sipped

وانشق أزاهر روضة

وانشق أزاهر روضة

خلْنَا شذاهَا المُقْتَطَفْ

خلْنَا شذاهَا المُقْتَطَفْ

And inhale the blossoms of a garden

And blossoms of the garden burst open

Whose fragrance we thought was what was plucked.

We inhaled their plucked fragrance

والْثِمْ ثنَايَا غَادة

والْثِمْ ثنَايَا غَادة

حَوَتِ الملاَحة وَالطُّرَفْ

حَوَتِ الملاَحة وَالطُّرَفْ

And kiss the front teeth of a graceful maiden

With a mouth of soft, delicate curves

Who possessed loveliness and rare charms.

Holding sweetness and charm

وَأطِعْ نصيحك فِي الهَوَى

وَأطِعْ نصيحك فِي الهَوَى

وَدَعِ التَّحَمُّل والكَلَفْ

وَدَعِ التَّحَمُّل والكَلَفْ

And heed your sincere adviser in love,

And heed the advice about passion

And set aside endurance and lovesick longing.

Leave off suffering and pretense

يَا مَنْ عَلا أعْلَى شَرَفْ

يَا مَنْ عَلا أعْلَى شَرَفْ

إذْ حَازَ بِالنسب الشَّرَفْ

إذْ حَازَ بِالنسب الشَّرَفْ

O you who rose to the highest eminence,

O you who ascended the highest honor

When you gained honor through lineage.

When you gained glory through lineage

أوْضَّحْتَ منهَاجَ الهدى

أوْضَّحْتَ منهَاجَ الهدى

ونَهَجْتَ منهج من سلفْ

ونَهَجْتَ منهج من سلفْ

You made clear the path of guidance,

You clarified the way of guidance

And followed the way of those who came before.

And followed the path of predecessors

وَضَّحْتَ شَاكلةَ الصوا

وَضَّحْتَ شَاكلةَ الصوا

ب فكنتَ عن سلفٍ خَلَفْ

ب فكنتَ عن سلفٍ خَلَفْ

You clarified the nature of what is right,

You illuminated the features of generosity

And so became a successor to your predecessors.

Thus you were a successor, not predecessor

وطلعتَ فِي أفق الزما

وطلعتَ فِي أفق الزما

ن طلوع نجمٍ فِي سُدفْ

ن طلوع نجمٍ فِي سُدفْ

And you rose on the horizon of time,

You rose in the horizon of time

Like a star rising in darkness.

Like the rising of a star in elegance

لَوْ لَمْ تَكُنْ روضاً لما

لَوْ لَمْ تَكُنْ روضاً لما

أبْديت زهراً يُقْتَطَفْ

أبْديت زهراً يُقْتَطَفْ

Had you not been a garden, you would not

Had you not been a garden, you would not

Have brought forth blossoms to be plucked.

Have produced a flower to be plucked

يَا بدْر مَجْدٍ قَدْ أضا

يَا بدْر مَجْدٍ قَدْ أضا

وسحابَ جودٍ قَدْ وَكَفْ

وسحابَ جودٍ قَدْ وَكَفْ

O full moon of glory that has shone,

O full moon of glory that gathered

And cloud of generosity that has poured down,

Clouds of generosity that sufficed

لاَ زلتَ تَبْقَى جَامعا

لاَ زلتَ تَبْقَى جَامعا

جُمَلَ المحَاسن وَالظَّرَفْ

جُمَلَ المحَاسن وَالظَّرَفْ

May you ever remain, combining

You remain still, embracing

The sum of fine qualities and refinement.

Perfections and refinements

وَلَقِيتَ أسْبَابَ الهنا

وَلَقِيتَ أسْبَابَ الهنا

وَوُقِيتَ دَائِرة التلفْ

وَوُقِيتَ دَائِرة التلفْ

And may you find the means of happiness,

And you attained means of bliss

And be shielded from the calamity of ruin,

And were spared the course of decay

مَا مَدَّ جَازِرُ زَاخِرٍ

مَا مَدَّ جَازِرُ زَاخِرٍ

وَأبَانَ دُرّاً مِنْ صَدَفْ

وَأبَانَ دُرّاً مِنْ صَدَفْ

As long as the ebb of a surging sea runs on

What an intelligent, flourishing one extended

And reveals pearls from shells.

And made pearls appear from shells
