استحى النُّور من سنا الفلَقِ

وَاخْتَفَى في الوَرَقْ

وَاخْتَفَى في الوَرَقْ

Light grew bashful before the splendor of daybreak

Light grew bashful before dawn’s radiance

and hid among the leaves,

And hid among the leaves,

مُذْ تَجَلَّتْ غَزَالَة الأفُقِ

مُذْ تَجَلَّتْ غَزَالَة الأفُقِ

فِي شَقيق الشفَقْ

فِي شَقيق الشفَقْ

when the gazelle of the horizon unveiled herself

Since the horizon’s gazelle appeared

within twilight’s crimson anemone bloom,

In the anemone-red of twilight;

وَجَرَتْ شُهْب أنجمِ الغَسَقِ

وَجَرَتْ شُهْب أنجمِ الغَسَقِ

فِي مَجَالِ السَّبَق

فِي مَجَالِ السَّبَق

and the shooting stars of dusk raced

And the meteors of dusk’s stars sped

across the field of competition.
