I charmed his nūn-shaped eyebrow with Nūn,
I invoked his eyebrow, whose beauty is like the letter noon, with a noon,
and his cheek and both his sideburns with Yā Sīn;
And his cheek and chin with a yaseen,
وَعَيْنَهُand his eye وثَنَايَاهُand his front teeth وَمَبْسَمَهُand his smiling mouth

against every evil eye with Ṭā Hā or Ṭā Sīn.
With the most beautiful eyes, whether dark or light.

A gazelle whose glance captivated the doe's gaze, when
A gazelle whose glance is like the glance of a doe when
his charms alighted on the horizon of loveliness.
His beautiful features appeared on the horizon of perfection.

Like flowers in delicacy, a gazelle in graceful swaying,
Like a flower in luxury and a gazelle in a meadow,
bright stars in eminence, and a bough in suppleness.
And the flower in nobility and the branch in softness.

The dew of modesty gleamed in the fire of his cheek,
The water of life flowed in the fire of his cheek
like a rose sprinkled with the rain of Tishrīn.
Like a rose sprinkled with the water of October.

His side-whiskers fenced the roses of his cheeks,
And the apples of his cheek were fenced
as Nuʿmān is hedged with eglantine.
As Nu'man fenced Nusaybin.

With eyes intoxicating with happiness, his eyes

Captivated with the eyes of the one with beautiful eyes.

Slender of stature, his swaying limbs have not left—
Of swaying gait, his passions did not leave
dark and graceful as they are—any heart unpierced.
A heart that was not pierced by a slender and graceful one.

The arrows of his eyelids have struck into the vitals,
The arrows of his eyelids pierced my heart
from his eyebrow's bow, to destroy a captive.
From the bow of his eyebrow, perfectly paired.

He never sharpened a glance, deeming my death his duty,
He did not glance except to see my murder as his duty
without my dying by the prescribed and the customary.
So I die by what is obligatory and supererogatory.

I hope to meet him and I fear his rejection forever
so I have ever remained between joy and sorrow.
Thus I remain between happiness and sorrow.

When you told of the gazelle, the neighbor of Jurun.

Mislead me with what almost guided me?

your reproach for my love of him is not my creed.
For my religion is not to blame for loving him.

In loving him there is sincerity and empowerment.

his gaze is a seducer in the guise of one seduced.

They did not distinguish between the foolish and the insane one.
