قَدْindeed زَارَنِيhe visited me مِنْfrom غَيْرِother than وَعْدٍa promise سَابِقٍprior
فَشَفَىso he healed فُؤَاداًa heart بِالصُّدُودِby turning away أعَلَّهُhe made it ill
He visited me without a prior promise,
He visited me without prior promise
and healed a heart he had made ill by turning away.
And healed a heart afflicted with rejection
وَلَقَدْand indeed وَدِدْتُI wished بِأنْfor ... to تَكُونَbe مَحَاجِرِيmy eye sockets
عِوَضَin place of الثَّرَىthe soil كَيْمَاso that تُقَبِّلَthey might kiss نَعْلَهُhis sandal
And indeed I wished that my eye sockets might be
How I wish my cheeks were his shoes
in place of the soil, so they might kiss his sandal.
Instead of earth, that they might kiss his feet
