أمَرhe commanded الجَفْنthe eyelid بِسُهْدٍto sleeplessness وَنَهَرْand rebuked
دَمْعَهُits tears المَسْجُومْstreaming
He bade the eyelid stay sleepless and rebuked
He commanded sleep to his eyelids and a tear flowed,
its streaming tears.
So its flowing became that of a deprived, anguished one.
فَغَداso it became سَائِلُهُits flowing tear لَمَّاwhen انْهَمَرْpoured down
سَائِلاًa supplicant مَحْرُومْdenied
So its flowing tear, when it poured down, became
His cheek and saliva are apple and aroma,
a supplicant denied.
His face a garden.
خَدُّهُhis cheek وَالرّيقُand the saliva تُفَّاحٌapple وراحْand wine
وجْهُهُhis face بُسْتَانْa garden
His cheek is an apple, and his saliva wine;
The toothstick and temple are night and morning,
his face is a garden.
His stature a sapling.
وَالسَّنَىand the radiance وَالصُّدْغُand the temple-lock لَيْلٌnight وَصَبَاحْand morning
وَالقَوامُand the stature الْبَانْthe moringa tree
And his temple-lock is night, his radiance morning;
The brilliance and mouth are musk and meadow-flowers,
and his figure is a moringa tree.
The complexion, lilies.
واللَّمَىand the lips’ dark tint وَالثَّغْرُand the teeth مِسْكٌmusk وَأقَاحْand daisies
وَالطُّلَىand the necks سُوسَانْlilies
And his lips’ dark tint is musk, his teeth daisies;
A Josephian beauty, a Houri gaze,
and the necks are lilies.
Fashioned by the Eternal,
يُوسُفِيُّJoseph-like الحُسْنِin beauty حُورِيُّhouri-like النَّظَرْin gaze

Joseph-like in beauty, houri-like in gaze,
Of gazelle, twig, and moon,
the Ever-Sustaining One fashioned him
Leaving no blemish.

from a gazelle, a bough, and a moon.
He left no one immune.
