حَيَّاكَgreeted you ثَغْرُmouth الحَيَاthe rain النَّظِيمْneatly strung
فِيin رَوْضَةٍa garden وَجْهُهَاits face وَسِيمْfair
The rain's pearl-strung smile greeted you
In a garden whose face is fair.
صَحَّتْwere healthy بِهَاin it القضبُthe boughs فِيin التَثَنِّيswaying
فَاعْتَلَّso grew ill فِيbefore وَجْهِهَاits face النَّسِيمْthe breeze
The boughs there were hale as they swayed,
So the breeze fell ill before its face.
وَقَامَand rose فِيin أيْكِهَاits grove خَطِيبٌa preacher
عِنْدِيI have لَهُfor him المُقْعِدُwhat makes one sit المُقِيمْwhat makes one stand
And a preacher rose within its grove;
I have for him what makes him sit and stand.
