فوحّدتُ من أهواه عن هوّة الشركِ
Love lifted the veil of polytheism from my bright face.
The passion unveiled my clarity with the veil of idolatry
So I affirmed my beloved’s oneness, far from the abyss of polytheism.
So I made singular whom I passionately loved from the abyss of idolatry

So I said, when your glances had decreed slaughter:

O slayer with a glance, who stole my devotion,
Did the fateful glance that took my devotion escape you?

Whatever the circumstances, I cannot do without you.
In any case, I had to have you

Or in dignity, which better befits [kingship?].
