وَعَشِيَّةٍ خِلْتُ الهلاَلَ بأفْقِهَا

وَعَشِيَّةٍ خِلْتُ الهلاَلَ بأفْقِهَا

إكْليلَ دُرّ فوق هَامِ عَقِيقِ

إكْليلَ دُرّ فوق هَامِ عَقِيقِ

And one evening, I fancied the crescent on its horizon

A diadem of pearls above crests of carnelian,

أوْ زَوْرَقاً من فِضَّةٍ فِي عَسْجَدٍ

أوْ زَوْرَقاً من فِضَّةٍ فِي عَسْجَدٍ

أو جَدْوَلاً يَلْوِي بِرَوْضِ شَقِيقِ

أو جَدْوَلاً يَلْوِي بِرَوْضِ شَقِيقِ

Or a silver skiff in gold,

Or a stream winding through a garden of anemones.
