اللَّيْلُthe night سَجَاgrew still وَوَافِدُand the herald الصبحِof dawn قَضَىfulfilled
اللَّيْلُ سَجَا وَوَافِدُ الصبحِ قَضَى
حَقَّاa duty وَمَضَىand departed
حَقَّا وَمَضَى
The night grew still, and the herald of dawn fulfilled
a duty and departed.
وَالغَيْمُand the clouds دَجَاgrew dark ومبسمُand the smiling mouth البَرقِof lightning أضَاshone
وَالغَيْمُ دَجَا ومبسمُ البَرقِ أضَا
لَمَّاwhen وَمَضَاflashed
لَمَّا وَمَضَا
And the clouds grew dark, and lightning's smiling mouth shone
when it flashed.
والسيلُand the torrent عَلَىacross البطاحِthe broad valley floors لماwhen اعْتَرَضَاspread across
والسيلُ عَلَى البطاحِ لما اعْتَرَضَا
نَالَattained الغَرَضَاthe aim
نَالَ الغَرَضَا
And the torrent, when it spread across the broad valley floors,
attained its aim.
