I likened the beauty spots on my tormentor’s cheek
I compared steads to the cheeks of my tormentor
to musk scattered over a platter of carnelian.
Musk scattered above a ruby dish
وَكَأنَّand as though عَارِضَهُhis cheek-down عَلَىupon وَجَنَاتِهِhis cheeks

And the down upon his cheeks is like
As if her mole on her cheeks
myrtle finely patterned in gardens of anemones.
Were an myrtle blooming in a meadow of windflowers
