And a full moon upon a bough—I was led astray by his beauty;
The moon's beauty led me astray
And it is a wonder to be led astray by the full moon.
How strange that the moon itself led to my losing my way

As though his two sideburns, upon the rose of his cheek,
As if his cheeks were a rose bed
Were chains of sweet basil that grew upon embers.
Chains of basil sprouting from embers

And the fragrant musk of the beauty mark, in the sea of his cheek,
The musky moles on his cheek
Seeks to capture pearls from the jewel of his mouth.
Seeking to pluck pearls from the essence of his lips
