يَاAh ربmany a غَزَالَةٍgazelle كَشَمْسِlike the sun وضحتْshe shone forth
يَا رب غَزَالَةٍ كَشَمْسِ وضحتْ
للَّيْلِthe night مَحَتْshe effaced
للَّيْلِ مَحَتْ
Ah, many a gazelle shone forth like the sun,
O Lord of a gazelle, like a sun when it rises
effacing the night.
It erased the night
بِالسُّكْرِthrough intoxication صَحَتْshe sobered وَبَالِحَيَاand in modesty اتَّشَحَتْshe wrapped herself
بِالسُّكْرِ صَحَتْ وَبَالِحَيَا اتَّشَحَتْ
يَاOh كَمْhow many فَضَحَتْshe put to shame
يَا كَمْ فَضَحَتْ
She sobered through intoxication and wrapped herself in modesty.
Intoxicated with life, it awoke and was adorned with splendor
Oh, how many she put to shame!
Oh how it shone

لَمَّا نَضَحَتْ
On her cheek, rosewater seeped forth
In its meadow, the waters of roses gushed forth
when she perspired.
When it flourished
