حَسِبْتُI deemed المُدَامَthe wine وَزَهْرَand the blossoms of الكَمَامْthe calyxes
حَسِبْتُ المُدَامَ وَزَهْرَ الكَمَامْ
وَسَجْعَand the cooing of الحَمامthe doves وَوَقْعَand the patter of الْمَطَرْthe rain
وَسَجْعَ الحَمام وَوَقْعَ الْمَطَرْ
I took the wine and the blossoms in their calyxes,
I deemed wine and the blooms of vines
And the cooing of doves and the patter of rain,
And doves' moaning and rain's patter
شَهِيَّdelicious الضَّرِيبِthe honey وَثَغْرَand the mouth of الحَبيبِthe beloved
شَهِيَّ الضَّرِيبِ وَثَغْرَ الحَبيبِ
وَلَحْنَand the melody of الحُلِيّthe jewelry وَصَوْتَand the sound of الْوَتَرْthe string
وَلَحْنَ الحُلِيّ وَصَوْتَ الْوَتَرْ
For delicious honey and the beloved's mouth,
Craze of duty and darling's lips
And the chiming of jewelry and the sound of the string.
Tunes of lutes and voice of strings
