أقُولُI say وَالْكَاسُand the cup قَدْalready أرَانَاhas shown us
أقُولُ وَالْكَاسُ قَدْ أرَانَا
غرُوبَsetting شَمْسٍa sun بثغرِat the mouth of بَدْرِa full moon
غرُوبَ شَمْسٍ بثغرِ بَدْرِ
I say, as the cup has already shown us
I speak and the cup has shown us
a sun setting at a full moon’s mouth:
A sunset in the smile of the moon
فِيin خَدّهِhis cheek شَمْسُكَyour sun اسْتَقَرَّتْhas settled
فِي خَدّهِ شَمْسُكَ اسْتَقَرَّتْ
والشَّمْسُand the sun تَجْرِيruns لِمُسْتَقَرِّtoward a resting place
والشَّمْسُ تَجْرِي لِمُسْتَقَرِّ
In his cheek, your sun has come to rest,
On its cheek your sun has settled
and the sun runs toward a resting place.
While the sun runs to settle
