And a full-hipped woman, slender of waist,
With thick ankles and crushed buttocks,
Soft in her curves, languid of gaze,
Graceful arms and sleepy eyes,
تَضَاحَكُshe laughs عَنْrevealing دُرّpearls وَتَبْسِمُand she smiles عَنْrevealing سَنًىradiance

She laughs, revealing pearls, and smiles, revealing radiance,
She smiles, revealing pearls, and grins, showing ivory.
And sways like a bān tree, and glances like a gazelle fawn.
She glances coquettishly, winking from beneath her lids.
تَبَدَّتْshe appeared وَقَدْand already هَزَّتْshe swayed مَعَاطِفَthe curves رِدفهَاof her hips
فَأبْدَتْso she revealed هِلاَلاًa crescent فَوْقَabove غُصْنٍa bough علىover حَتْفِdoom
She appeared, having set the curves of her hips swaying,
She emerged, having shaken her riding camel’s saddle,
So she revealed a crescent above a bough, over doom.
Revealing a crescent moon above a branch upon her temple.

I was bewitched by the lām of her temple-lock, and I was not
I was captivated by the beauty of her cheekbone,
Halfhearted in my devotion to the ṣād of her glance.
And I was indebted to the arrow of her glance that pierced my heart.
