قَرَنْتَنِي يا محلَّ الذّمِّ معتمِداً

قَرَنْتَنِي يا محلَّ الذّمِّ معتمِداً

بِصاحبٍ ما اِرتَضاه لي أخو نظرِ

بِصاحبٍ ما اِرتَضاه لي أخو نظرِ

You deliberately paired me, O object of blame,

You have paired me, O abode of blame, relying

With a companion whom no discerning person deemed suitable for me.

On a companion whom my insight did not choose as a brother.

وكنتَ لا شكّ فيما أنتَ جامعُهُ

وكنتَ لا شكّ فيما أنتَ جامعُهُ

كجامعٍ بين ضوء الفجر والقمرِ

كجامعٍ بين ضوء الفجر والقمرِ

And you were, without doubt, in what you brought together,

And you undoubtedly in what you were bringing together

Like one joining the light of dawn and the moon.

Were like one who couples the dawn light with the moon.
