What youth did I bury in the soil
He died, yet I did not meet my end with him.
And yet my sorrow for him is not fulfilled

He provisioned me, after my parting from him,
After we parted, he left me with
with whatever anguish sorrows wished.
As much grief as sorrows desired

I said to a group that told me
had tasted death: "May you be left on foot, you riders!
He tasted misery, you walked away from the group

That will benefit me, O people, with lies?

You blamed one who did no wrong
of one dearer to my heart than my heart itself.
He is nobler than my heart to my heart

My spear that pierces the necks of enemies
and in my combat he is my keen sword.
And in my hands it is my fang

He relieved me of tight, narrow discomfort
that pressed upon me, spaciousness and ample room.
By making space and room

With spear thrusts or blows
