Those dwellings at Ramatayn are lifeless.
Those are the abodes of Bramayin Hamoud
They have faded, but the memories of them have not faded.
It studied but did not study for it periods

And the clusters of the bushes gathered fresh

With tears from my eyelids flowing abundantly upon it

And the caravan either loaded and crumbling
or steadfast, riding the crest of forgetfulness.
Or a rider whose saddle is frozen solid

And on the slopes of Mushaqqar horned mountain goats
from whom the gazelle takes its gaze and neck.
Flashing their eyes and beautiful necks at the onlooker

It turned away and did not want to turn back and maybe
suffering comes though no one wishes it.
Distress came but the suitor did not want it

my eyes, while we slept beside the saddles.
My eyes while we were headed to departure

In the shade of withered shrubs like dry spindles
the deserts had taken from them what they had borrowed.
Their loose fibers taken by them as tinder

Without visiting a waterless desert and groves

and the white hairs on me were black in their eyes.
And my whiteness to them is blackness

They denied an ailment that has no stratagem
and censured an end from which there is no escape.
And blamed a downfall that has no deviator

Youth is loved, even when its days are long past,
Youth is loved even if its era has elapsed
yet this gray hair is found tiresome, though it is new.
And this gray hair is twisted while still fresh

Do not make the era of youth remote, and from a confidant
I pray for its nearness, though it is far away.
I call it near though it is far

Days I was smitten by gazes and I would smite
and I was caught in love's snare, and caught others.
In the traps of love and hunt

it had strayed far, and the wolf had seized it to our loss.
That wandered so the Master confined it for us

وأتَتْكَ منه مَيامنٌ وسُعودُ
May majesty and ascendancy come upon you during it,
And it clothed you in it with majesty and influence
and may blessings and good fortune come to you from it,
And good omens and prosperity came to you from it
حَتّىuntil يَقولَsays المستزيدُone seeking more لكَfor you العُلاeminence
حَتّى يَقولَ المستزيدُ لكَ العُلا

ما فَوقَ هَذا في العَلاءِ مَزيدُ
until one who seeks greater eminence for you says,
Until the over-ambitious says to you ultimate sublimity
'Beyond this there is no greater eminence.'
Above this, is there increase in the most lofty
