لم تدعْ لِي نُوَبُ الأي

لم تدعْ لِي نُوَبُ الأي

يامِ في الخَلْقِ خليلا

يامِ في الخَلْقِ خليلا

The misfortunes of the days have not left me

The days did not leave me a friend among people,

a single friend among humankind.

I am totally isolated and was never fickle,

أنا صِفْرٌ مِن أخلّا

أنا صِفْرٌ مِن أخلّا

ئي وما كنتُ مَلولا

ئي وما كنتُ مَلولا

I am bereft of my friends,

So when will fate allow me, after being stingy,

though I was never one to tire of them.

A friend I was deprived of, separated for so long?

فمتى يسمح لِي الدّهْ

فمتى يسمح لِي الدّهْ

رُ وقد كان بخيلا

رُ وقد كان بخيلا

So when will Time be generous to me,

Destiny took him away from me, difficult and submissive,

though it has been miserly,

And the land twisted him away from me, forcibly and unjustly.

بخليلٍ جُبتُ في تَحْ

بخليلٍ جُبتُ في تَحْ

صيلهِ البُعدَ الطَّويلا

صيلهِ البُعدَ الطَّويلا

with a friend, to win whom I traversed

So when can I replace him? I cannot find a substitute.

the long distance?

أَخَذَتْه مِنّيَ الأق

أَخَذَتْه مِنّيَ الأق

دارُ صَعْباً وذَلولا

دارُ صَعْباً وذَلولا

The decrees of fate took him from me,

whether headstrong or docile.

وطَوَتْه عنِّيَ الأرْ

وطَوَتْه عنِّيَ الأرْ

ضُ اِغتِصاباً وغُلولا

ضُ اِغتِصاباً وغُلولا

And the earth folded him away from me,

by forcible seizure and treacherous theft.

فمتى اِستبدلتُ عنه

فمتى اِستبدلتُ عنه

لم أجدْ عنه بديلا

لم أجدْ عنه بديلا

So whenever I sought to replace him,

I found no substitute for him.
