ياO سَقىmay He water اللَّهGod لَيلتيmy night لَيلةthe night of السّبْSaturday (first part)

O, may God water my night, the night of Satur-
O quencher of my night, the night of separation,
day, with clear water—no, rather may He water it with wine.
With not mere water but drink you sated it.
لَيلةٌa night قرّبتbrought near بعيداًone far away وأعطتْand granted
مُتَمَنّىًsomething wished for وأقدمتْand made come غُيّاباthose absent
A night that brought the distant near and granted
A night that brought near one far away,
what was wished for, and made the absent come.
Gave longed-for boon, returned the absent dear;
وَاِرتَجَعناand we regained زَمانَناour time وكأنّاand as though we
بَعدafter شَيبٍgrey hair منّاof ours اِرتَجَعناwe regained الشّباباyouth
And we regained our time, as though we
And we regained our days of old, as though
after our hair had greyed, had regained youth.
After our greying, we regained our youth.
