فؤادِيَ مشغولٌ بك العمرَ كلَّه

فؤادِيَ مشغولٌ بك العمرَ كلَّه

وأنتَ كما يهوى الخَلِيُّون فارغُ

وأنتَ كما يهوى الخَلِيُّون فارغُ

My heart is occupied with you my whole life long.

My heart is preoccupied with you all my life

And you are carefree, as those free of love wish to be.

While you are indifferent like the uncaring ones

وإنْ أكُ في دار الهوى وسْطَ عَقْرِها

وإنْ أكُ في دار الهوى وسْطَ عَقْرِها

فإنّك عن دار الصّبابةِ رائغُ

فإنّك عن دار الصّبابةِ رائغُ

And though I am in love’s abode, amid its inner courtyard,

And if I stay in the abode of love amidst its ruins

Yet you slip away from the abode of yearning.

You are absent from the abode of youth

تباعدتَ عنّي بعد أن قد مَلَكْتَنِي

تباعدتَ عنّي بعد أن قد مَلَكْتَنِي

فألّا ولم تبلغ بقلبي المبالغُ

فألّا ولم تبلغ بقلبي المبالغُ

You drew away from me after you had already possessed me.

You distanced yourself from me after you possessed me

Then why not before my heart had been driven to such extremes?

So no more, you did not reach the depths of my heart

خُلِقتَ بقلبٍ لم تجُزْ فيه صَبوَةٌ

خُلِقتَ بقلبٍ لم تجُزْ فيه صَبوَةٌ

وقد صاغ قلبي للصّبابة صائغُ

وقد صاغ قلبي للصّبابة صائغُ

You were created with a heart through which no passion has passed,

You were created with a heart that has no affection

And a goldsmith has fashioned my heart for yearning.

While my heart was molded for affection by a molder
