سَقىmay ... send rain upon اللَّهُGod الّتيher who طَردتْbanished وساديmy pillow
وكانتْand were لِيfor me معاصمُهاher wrists وساداa pillow
May God send rain upon her who banished my pillow,
May God water the one who drove away my pillow
and her wrists were a pillow for me.
And was for me a support as a pillow
جعلتُI made وقدand already خلعتُI took off نِجادَthe baldric of سيفيmy sword
غدائرَهاher braids لعاتِقِيَfor my shoulder النّجاداthe baldric
Having taken off my sword's baldric, I made
I have taken off my sword's sheath
her braids the baldric for my shoulder.
Making her plaits my new sheath
فإنْfor if يكُis مُنْصُلِيmy sword عَضْباًkeen-edged حَديداًsharp
فإنَّthen indeed لحسنهاher beauty has نُصُلاًblades حِداداsharp
For if my sword is keen-edged and sharp,
If my sword is tempered steel
then her beauty has sharp blades.
Then her beauty is a finely honed blade
فماso not أدرِيI know وقدand already قضّيتI have completed نَحْبِيmy allotted life
أَغيَّاًwhether error كانَwas ذلكَthat أَمْor رَشاداright guidance
So I do not know, now that I have met my death,
And now that I have met my fate
whether that was error or right guidance.
I know not if it was in error or rightly guided
