أُحِبُّI love ثَرىsoil نجدٍNajd ونجدٌand Najd بعيدةٌfar away
حبّذاhow lovely نجدٌNajd إنif لمnot تُفِدْit grants قُرباnearness
I love the soil of Najd, though Najd is far away.
I love the soil of Najd, though Najd is far,
Ah, how lovely is Najd, even if it grants no nearness!
Would that were Najd near, if it brought no gain.
يَقولونَthey say نَجدٌNajd لستَyou are not منof شعبِthe tribe أَهلهاits people
وَقدand indeed صَدقواthey spoke truly لكنّنيbut I منهُمُone of them حُبّاin love
They say, 'You are not of the tribe of Najd's people.'
They say: "You are not one of Najd's own people."
And indeed they spoke truly, but in love I am one of them.
True, but my love makes me one of them.
كَأنّيas though I وقَدand already فارَقتI parted from نجداًNajd شقاوةًin misery
فتىًa youth ضلَّstrayed عنهُfrom him قلبُهhis heart يَبتغيhe seeks قلباa heart
Having parted from Najd in misery, I am like
As though I left Najd in misery,
A youth whose heart has strayed from him, seeking a heart.
A wanderer whose heart seeks a heart.
