بنفسيmy life as ransom مَنthe one whom رأيتُI saw بجُنْحِin the darkness of ليلٍnight
فضاءand lit up بنورwith the light of طلعتهhis face الطِّرافاthe leather tent
My life be ransom for the one I saw in the darkness of night,
With myself I saw at the wing of a night
who lit the leather tent with the radiance of his face.
A space with the light of its rising pleiades
حكىresembled لِيto me ريقهhis saliva عَذْباًsweet water نميراًpure and wholesome
وسقّىand gave to drink منfrom صبابتهlonging for him ذُعافاdeadly poison
His saliva seemed to me like sweet, pure water,
Its saliva told me fresh pure water
yet he gave me deadly poison to drink through longing for him.
And it gave to drink from its pouring rivers
وكنتُand I used to أضِنُّbe sparing فيin كَلَفِيmy infatuation بقلبيwith my heart
فهاso here أنَاI ذاthis one أجودgive generously بهwith it جُزافاwithout measure
And in my infatuation I used to guard my heart jealously,
And I was hiding in my chest with my heart
so here I am, giving it away without measure.
So here I am bestowing it openly
