ياO جامعgatherer of المالwealth كُلْهُeat it قبلbefore آكلهِits eater
فإنّماfor ... only المالُwealth فيin الدّنياthis world لمنto whoever أكلاate
O gatherer of wealth, eat it before another eats it;
O you who gather all wealth before consuming it
For wealth in this world belongs only to whoever eats it.
Wealth in this world belongs only to those who consume it
أنتَyou المجارىthe one being raced against إِلىtoward ماwhat بتّyou spent the night تجمعهyou gather it
فاِسبقْso outpace إليهto it صروفَthe vicissitudes الدَّهرِof time والأجلاand the appointed end
You are in a race for what you spent the night amassing;
You are racing towards what you strive to accumulate
So beat the vicissitudes of time and death to it.
So outpace the vicissitudes of fate and death's arrival
إنْif تُبقِyou preserve مالَكَyour wealth حيناًfor a time لمnot تُبَقَّyou are preserved لهfor it
إمّاeither بطلتَyou cease to exist فَناءًthrough death عنهapart from it أوor بطلاit ceases to exist
If you preserve your wealth for a time, you will not be preserved for it:
If you keep your wealth for a while, it won't last for you
Either you perish, leaving it behind, or it perishes.
You will either expire before it or expire without it
أمَّاas for الكريمُthe generous man فيمضِيso goes مالُهُhis wealth معهwith him
ويتركand leaves المالَwealth للأعداءto the enemies مَنwhoever بَخِلاwas miserly
As for the generous man, his wealth goes with him;
The generous spend their wealth in life and take it with them
And whoever is miserly leaves wealth to enemies.
While the miser leaves his wealth for his enemies when he dies
