ومنand among عجائبwonders أمريmy condition أنّنيthat I أبداًalways
أريدُI desire منfrom صحّتيmy health ماwhat ليسdoes not يبقىlast لِيfor me
And among the wonders of my condition is that I forever
And among the wonders of my condition is that I always
want from my health what cannot remain mine.
desire from my health what will not last for me.
هلis there? صحّةٌhealth منfrom سقامٍillness لاno دواءَcure لهfor it
وكيفand how أبقىI live on ولمّاwhile … have not يبقَlive on أمثاليothers like me
Can there be recovery from a sickness for which there is no cure?
Is there recovery from an illness for which there is no cure?
And how can I remain, when those like me have not?
And how can I live on when others like me have not?
وماand not أُريدI desire سوىexcept عينِthe very essence of المحالimpossibility فلاso no
سبيلَway يوماًever إلىto تبليغfulfilling آماليmy hopes
I desire nothing but impossibility itself—so there is no
And I desire nothing but sheer impossibility, so there is no
way, ever, to bring my hopes to fulfillment.
way, ever, to fulfill my hopes.
