لأَنتُمُyou indeed آلُthe family of خيرthe best of النَّاسِpeople كلِّهِمُall of them
لأَنتُمُ آلُ خير النَّاسِ كلِّهِمُ
المنهلُthe watering place العَذْبُsweet والمستوردُand the source sought for water الغَدَقُabundant
المنهلُ العَذْبُ والمستوردُ الغَدَقُ
You are indeed the family of the best of all people,
the sweet watering place and the abundant source of water.
وليسand there is no للّهِfor God دينٌreligion غيرother than حبّكُمُlove of you
وليس للّهِ دينٌ غير حبّكُمُ
ولاnor إليهto Him سواكمْexcept you وحدَكمْyou alone طُرُقُpaths
ولا إليه سواكمْ وحدَكمْ طُرُقُ
God's religion is nothing but love of you,
and there are no paths to Him but you alone.
وَإِنْand if يَكُنthere is منfrom رسولthe Messenger of اللَّهGod غيركُمُothers than you
وَإِنْ يَكُن من رسول اللَّه غيركُمُ
سوىapart from الوجودexistence فأنتمْthen you عندهto him الحدَقُthe pupils of the eyes
سوى الوجود فأنتمْ عنده الحدَقُ
Though others may derive from God's Messenger
only their existence, you, to him, are the pupils of his eyes.
رُزِقتُمُyou were granted الشّرفَhonor الأعلىthe highest وقومُكُمُand your people
رُزِقتُمُ الشّرفَ الأعلى وقومُكُمُ
فيهمْamong them غضابٌangry ones عليكمْwith you كيفhowever ماever (emphatic) رُزقواthey were granted
فيهمْ غضابٌ عليكمْ كيف ما رُزقوا
You were granted the highest honor; as for your people,
some among them are angry with you, however they were favored.
وأنتمُand you فيin شديداتِhardships الورىhumankind عُصُرٌrefuges
وأنتمُ في شديداتِ الورى عُصُرٌ
وفيand in سوادthe blackness of الدّياجيthe dark nights أنتمُyou الفَلَقُdaybreak
وفي سواد الدّياجي أنتمُ الفَلَقُ
In humankind's hardships, you are refuges,
and in the blackness of the dark nights, you are daybreak.
ماnot للرّسولfor the Messenger سوىexcept أولادكمْyour children وَلَدٌoffspring
ما للرّسول سوى أولادكمْ وَلَدٌ
ولاnor لنَشْرٍfor a fragrance لهof his إلّاexcept بكمْthrough you عَبَقُaroma
ولا لنَشْرٍ له إلّا بكمْ عَبَقُ
The Messenger has no offspring except your children,
and his fragrance has no aroma except through you.
فَأَنتمُthus you فيin قُلوبthe hearts of النَّاسpeople كلّهمُall of them
فَأَنتمُ في قُلوب النَّاس كلّهمُ
السَّمْتُthe direction نقصدهwe seek it والحبلُand the rope نَعْتَلِقُwe cling to
السَّمْتُ نقصده والحبلُ نَعْتَلِقُ
Thus, in the hearts of all people, you are
the direction we seek and the rope to which we cling.
هلwhether يَستويare equal عندin the eyes of ذيone possessing عينٍan eye رُبىًhills ورُبىًand hills
هل يَستوي عند ذي عينٍ رُبىً ورُبىً
أوor الصّباحmorning علىupon الأوتادِthe stakes والغَسَقُand dusk
أو الصّباح على الأوتادِ والغَسَقُ
Are some hills equal to others in the eyes of one who sees,
or morning upon the stakes and dusk?
وُدّيmy love عليهupon him مقيمٌabiding لاno بَراحَdeparture لهfor it
وُدّي عليه مقيمٌ لا بَراحَ له
منthrough الزَّمانtime ورَهْنيand my pledge عندكمwith you عَلِقُheld fast
من الزَّمان ورَهْني عندكم عَلِقُ
My love for him abides, never departing
throughout time, and my pledge is held fast with you.
وثقتُI trusted منكمُin you بأنthat تستوهبواyou seek pardon for زَلَلِيmy lapses
وثقتُ منكمُ بأن تستوهبوا زَلَلِي
عندat الحسابthe reckoning وحسبيand sufficient for me مَنْthe one whom بهin him أثقُI trust
عند الحساب وحسبي مَنْ به أثقُ
I trust you to ask that my lapses be pardoned
at the reckoning; and the one I trust suffices me.
