قلْsay لمنْto whoever خدُّهُhis cheek منfrom اللّحظِthe gaze دامٍbleeding
رقّhave pity لِيon me منbecause of جوانحٍribs فيكfor you تُدْمىare made to bleed
Say to him whose cheek bleeds from glances:
Say to the one whose cheek is always rosy
Have pity on me, for my ribs bleed for you.
Soften for me wings in you that can be folded
ياO سقيمَlanguid الجفونthe eyelids منfrom غيرِother than سُقْمٍillness
لاdo not تَلُمنِيblame me إنْif متُّI die منهنّfrom them سُقْماof sickness
O you with languid eyelids, though free of illness,
Oh sickly eyelids without sickness
Do not blame me if I die of sickness from them.
Blame me not if I die of lovesickness
أناI خاطرتُhave risked فيin هواكlove for you بقلبٍwith a heart
ركبembarked upon البحرَthe sea فيكfor you أَباًa father وأُمّاand a mother
I have risked, in loving you, a heart
I ventured into your love with a heart
That braved the sea for you—father and mother alike.
That rode the seas with father and mother
