Wine brings relief from ailments and sorrows

to the spirit of the sand dune, and calls it to rapture.

It gleams undiluted in its cup, so you imagine it

made of light and flame, with no cup.

Until, when mixed, it appears to its drinker

as though pressed from a sorrowful person's cheek.

So drink wine, as though the mixing had fashioned for it

a necklace of pearls in a robe of gold.
