وَصارَ مِن فُرقَتِنا في لَحدِ
When closeness died of the malady of distance,
When separation's malady concludes,
and through our separation came to lie in a grave,
And the grave parts us in solitude,
لَطَمتُI slapped بِالدَمعِwith tears عَلَيهِin mourning for it خَدّيmy cheek
لَطَمتُ بِالدَمعِ عَلَيهِ خَدّي
لِأَنَّنيbecause I بِهِby it أُصِبتُI was stricken وَحديI alone
لِأَنَّني بِهِ أُصِبتُ وَحدي
I slapped my cheek with tears in mourning for it,
With tears I'll strike my cheek in grief,
for I alone was stricken by its loss.
For losing you has caused me woe.
