لَناwe have مُغَنٍّa singer مِنfrom بَنيthe sons of الجُندِthe soldiery
لَنا مُغَنٍّ مِن بَني الجُندِ
أَنَمُّmore telltale مِنthan دَمعٍa tear عَلىupon خَدِّa cheek
أَنَمُّ مِن دَمعٍ عَلى خَدِّ
We have a singer from the Banū al-Jund,
We have a singer from the sons of the soldiery,
more telltale than my tears upon my cheek.
More telltale than a tear upon a cheek.
لَوif دَخَلَhe entered النارَthe fire عَلىdespite حَرِّهاits heat
لَو دَخَلَ النارَ عَلى حَرِّها
لَماتَwould surely die مَنwhoever فيهاin it مِنَfrom البَردِthe cold
لَماتَ مَن فيها مِنَ البَردِ
Were he to enter the Fire, for all its heat,
If he entered the fire, despite its heat,
those within it would die of cold.
Those within it would die of cold.
