لَناwe have صَديقٌa friend صادِقُtrue to الوَعدِthe promise
لَنا صَديقٌ صادِقُ الوَعدِ
مُحَذِّقٌskilled فيin صَنعَةِthe art of الرِفدِgiving aid
مُحَذِّقٌ في صَنعَةِ الرِفدِ
We have a friend, true to his promise,
We have a friend, true to his word,
Skilled in the art of giving.
Skilled in the art of generosity,
ماnot جَلَسَتsat قَطُّever لَهُfor him هِمَّةٌambition
ما جَلَسَت قَطُّ لَهُ هِمَّةٌ
إِلّاexcept عَلىupon مَرتَبَةِthe station of المَجدِglory
إِلّا عَلى مَرتَبَةِ المَجدِ
Never has his ambition taken its seat
His spirit has never settled
Except at the station of glory.
Except on the seat of glory,
إِذاwhen طَرَقناهُwe call upon him طَرَقناwe call upon فَتىًa young man
إِذا طَرَقناهُ طَرَقنا فَتىً
كَأَنَّهُas though he were واسِطَةَthe central jewel of العِقدِthe necklace
كَأَنَّهُ واسِطَةَ العِقدِ
When we call upon him, we call upon a young man
When we call on him we call a young man
As though he were the central jewel of the necklace.
As if he were the clasp of a necklace.
