وَنَدامىand drinking companions بِشَمِّهاat smelling it حُذّاقُadept
We have a flower endowed with radiance,
We have a flower with radiant glow
And drinking companions adept at savoring its scent.
Whose fragrance makes experts enchanted know
وَحَبابٌand bubbles عَلىon كُؤوسٍcups كَوَردٍlike roses
لِلنَدىfor the dew فيin ثِيابِهِits robes أَطواقُcollars
And bubbles on cups, like roses,
Dew drops on chalices like roses bloom
On whose robes dew forms collars.
While veils of mist as necklaces festoon
كُلَّماwhenever ساقَهاhe poured it مِنَfrom الدَنِّthe wine jar ساقُa cupbearer

Whenever a cupbearer pours it from the wine jar,
Whenever she's led away from humbleness
The night remains in a race with its radiance.
The night’s obscurity from her brightness flees
وَلَناand we have زامِرٌa piper يَتيهُglories بِزَمرٍin piping
لِاِجتِماعِfor the gathering of الهُمومِthe cares مِنهُfrom him اِفتِراقُdispersal
And we have a piper who glories in his piping;
We have a flute that sadly blows refrain
Through him, gathered cares are scattered.
To break our sorrows when they gather again
وَمُغَنٍّand a singer لَهُhe has طِرازُan embroidered border عِذارٍcheek-down

And a singer with an embroidered border of cheek-down,
A singer whose melodious voice is choice
Above a cheek with delicate fringes.
Above a cheek whose dimples are so choice
كُلَّماwhenever أَرعَدَتthundered مَثانيهِhis paired strings أَضحىcame to be
لِلأَباريقِfor the pitchers بَينَناamong us إِبراقُa lightning-flash
Whenever his paired strings thunder, there comes
Whene’er his throat loudly begins to trill
A flash of lightning from the pitchers among us.
Among us glasses begin at once to spill
فَاِركَبِso ride الإِنخِلاعَabandon نَحويtoward me فَعِنديfor with me
لِلخَلاعاتِfor wanton revels فيin السُرورِmerriment سِباقُa race
So ride abandon toward me, for with me
So join me in this jovial atmosphere
There is a race of wanton revels in merriment.
Where joyous hearts know no restraint or fear
ماnot تَرىyou see جَوهَرَthe jewel of البَنَفسَجِthe violet يَغدوbecomes
فيin اِخضِرارِthe greenness of الرِياضِthe gardens مِنهُfrom it اِزرِقاقُblueness
Do you not see the violet's jewel, as there arises
You’ll never see the hyacinth so fair
From it a blueness amid the gardens' green?
As when green gardens azure blossoms wear
وَنُحورُand the necks of الغُصونِthe branches تَجلىare unveiled عَلَيناbefore us
بِعُقودِwith necklaces فُصولِهاtheir dividing beads الأَوراقُthe leaves
And the necks of the branches are unveiled before us,
The boughs' slim necks shine gracefully in rows
With necklaces whose dividing beads are leaves.
Adorned with leafy necklaces that close
قالَهُhe said it فَالعَيشُfor life مِنamong عُداةِthe foes of التَوانيidleness
مِثلَlike البَدرِthe full moon مِنamong عُداةِthe foes of المِحاقُthe moon's dark phase
He said it—for life is a foe of idleness,
Thus spoke the sage, life without tedium lives
As the full moon is a foe of the moon's dark phase.
Like the full moon sans any trace that hides
Sol 6.1
