    وَالغَيمُ بَينَ مُرَخَّمٍ وَمُجَزَّعِ

    The water is part cuirass-clad, part mail-clad;

    And the clouds are part marbled, part agate-banded.

    So sever sorrow’s cords with a nasal-voiced singer,

    Sweet in song, light-spirited in his cadence.

    If his strings offer up a melody,

    It finds the sweetest welcome in the ears,

    So long as brides remain in a dwelling,

    Unveiled with every black-leathered instrument and every jewel-inlaid one.
