صانَguarded قِناعُveil القُنوعِcontentment وَجهيmy face
صِيانَةَprotection الغِمدِthe scabbard لِلحُسامِfor the keen-edged sword
The veil of contentment has guarded my face,
My veil of contentment guarded my face
as a scabbard guards a keen-edged sword.
Like a scabbard guarding a sword
لِأَنَّنيbecause I لاnot اَرىsee بِعَينيwith my eye
مَنanyone who هُوَhe مِنof طينَةِthe clay الكِرامِthe noble
For I do not see with my own eyes
For I do not see with my eyes
anyone made of the clay of the noble.
One who shares the clay of nobility
بَلrather كُلُّevery ذيone possessing ضِنَّةٍstinginess وَبِشرٍand a cheerful face
كَالبَرقِlike lightning فيin العارِضِthe cloud الجَهامِrainless
Rather, every miser with a cheerful face
Rather, the mean and joyful alike
is like lightning in a rainless cloud.
Like lightning in ominous clouds
يَلوحُglimmers مَلبوسُهُhis garb عَلَيهِupon him
كَمِثلِjust like آلٍa mirage عَلىover رَغامِdusty ground
His garb glimmers upon him,
His clothes adorn him
like a mirage over dusty ground.
Like a corpse dressed for burial
