الوَردُthe roses فيin وَردِthe roses of الضَبابِthe mist شُموسٌsuns
وَالراحُand the wine فيin حُلَلِthe robes of الكُؤوسِthe goblets عَروسُa bride
The roses amid the mist's roses are suns.
Roses in the mist's roses are suns
And wine in the robes of goblets is a bride.
And breezes in goblets' gowns are brides
وَلَناand we have مُغَنٍّa singer حَجرُهُhis lap العَرشُthe throne الَّذيwhich
طُنبورُهُhis lute مِنfrom فَوقِهِabove it بَلقيسُBilqis
And we have a singer whose lap is the throne,
We have a singer whose lyre is the throne
Above which his lute is Bilqis.
Whose lute is the Queen of Sheba from on high
فَالغَيمُso the cloud فاخِتَةٌa ringdove نَلَذُّwe delight بِصَوتِهاin its voice
وَالجَوُّand the sky وَكرٌa nest وَالثَرىand the moist earth طاووسُa peacock
So the cloud is a ringdove in whose voice we delight,
So the clouds swoon when they hear his tone
And the sky is a nest, and the moist earth a peacock.
And the air whirls round and the earth's a peacock's eye
