Praise be to God: I have no fortitude
Praise be to God, I have no resilience
to aid my heart against what I feel.
To strengthen my heart against what I find
كُنتُI was مَصوناًprotected فَصِرتُthen I became مُبتَذَلاًabased
يَصنَعُdoes بيwith me ماwhatever يَشاؤُهُwills it الكَمَدُgrief
I was protected, but have become abased;
I was once guarded, now made common
grief does with me whatever it wills.
He does with me what the tyrant desires
فَهَلso is there? سَبيلٌa way إِلىto الخَلاصِdeliverance وَماand not
تَمَتَدُّextends مِنّيfrom me إِلىtoward السُلُوِّsolace يَدُa hand
Is there, then, a way to deliverance, when no
Is there a way to salvation? For my hand
hand of mine reaches toward solace?
Does not extend from me to the weapons
