ياO مَنyou who يُظاهِرُنيaid me بِالنُصحِwith counsel فيin العَذلِreproach
يا مَن يُظاهِرُني بِالنُصحِ في العَذلِ
وَعِندَهُand in his view أَنَّنيthat I am غِرٌّnaive بِذاin this العَمَلِdeed
وَعِندَهُ أَنَّني غِرٌّ بِذا العَمَلِ
O you who would support me with counsel even as you rebuke me,
O you who aid me with counsel in your reproach,
deeming me a novice in this affair—
And in whose view I am naive in this affair.
أَرسَلتَyou sent عَذلَكَyour reproach يَنهانيforbids me وَيَأمُرُنيand commands me
أَرسَلتَ عَذلَكَ يَنهاني وَيَأمُرُني
اِصرِفهُturn it away عَنّيfrom me فَإِنّيfor I am عَنهُaway from it فيin شُغُلِpreoccupation
اِصرِفهُ عَنّي فَإِنّي عَنهُ في شُغُلِ
you have sent your reproach to forbid me and command me;

وَخَلِّنيand leave me وَالَّذيand the one who روحيmy soul بِراحَتِهِin his palm
وَخَلِّني وَالَّذي روحي بِراحَتِهِ
فَإِنَّهُfor he لَوif نَأىdrew away عَنّيfrom me دَناdrew near أَجَليmy death
فَإِنَّهُ لَو نَأى عَنّي دَنا أَجَلي
Leave me with the one in whose palm my soul lies;
And leave me with the one in whose palm my soul lies,
for if he went far from me, my appointed end would draw near.
For if he drew away from me, my death would draw near.
