أَياO تارِكيyou who abandon me بِالصَدِّthrough rejection أُضنىI am worn down وَأُنهَكُand I am exhausted
سَفَكتَyou shed دَماًblood لَولاكَbut for you ماnot كانَwould have been يُسفَكُshed
O you who leave me languishing and exhausted through rejection,
You shed blood that, but for you, would never have been shed.
وَأَلزَمتَنيand you imposed on me وَكساًa loss in value كَأَنِّيَas though I were بَهرَجٌdebased coin
وَماand what أَناI مِنهُof it خالِصٌpure حينَwhen أُسبَكُI am melted down
And you made me bear a loss in value, as though I were debased coin,
Yet what I am made of is pure when I am melted down.
فَلَمّاso when رَأَيتَyou saw السُخطَdispleasure قَدalready قَطَّعَtore apart الرِضاcontentment
وَلَمand not يَبقَremain إِنصافٌfairness بِهِto it أَتَمَسَّكُI cling
So when you saw that displeasure had torn contentment apart,
And no fairness remained for me to cling to,
ثَنَيتُI turned عِنانَthe reins of العَتبِreproach عَنكَaway from you لِأَنَّهُbecause it is
رِضاthe approval of المُتَجَنّيthe unjust accuser غايَةٌa goal لَيسَis not تُدرَكُattained
I turned the reins of reproach away from you, because
The approval of an unjust accuser is a goal beyond reach.
