O you of prudence and firm resolve,

And of planning and sound judgment,

Rejoice in these days and take your ease,

With eyes content and without a peer.

And take to drinking amid the carnelian of roses,

And pearls of dew and the silver of jasmine—

    Jewelry whose inlay laughs

When the necks of branches wear it—

Of wine that is unveiled and then clears

The rust of sorrows from the sorrowful soul.

You see its eyes upon the vessels,

When it is mixed—bubbles like eyes.

And do not follow the path of drunkenness except

For one sober at heart, with drunken eyelids,

Who has upon his cheek a curling sidelock,

Like the night of doubt amid the dawn of certainty.

And live through a thousand feast days like your own,

For your like is not seen in a thousand ages.
