ياO أَيُّهاyou الغَيثُthe rain الَّذيthat

O rain that
O rain that comes pouring down
pours down, and hopes grow green,
And makes all hopes turn green,
ماwhat بالُcondition وَعدِكَyour promise قَدalready مَحاerased
آثارَهُits traces كَرُّrecurrence التَوانيdelay
What ails your promise? Already erased
Why is the promise you made gone,
are its traces by delay upon delay.
Effaced by procrastination?
أَقسَمتُI swore بِالمِنَنِby the favors الَّتيthat
لَكَof yours لَمdid not تَكَدَّرbecome clouded بِاِمتِنانِby reminders of favors
I swore by the favors that
I swear by favors you bestowed
are yours, unclouded by reminders of them:
Unspoiled by any discontent,
ماnot جِئتُI came مُقتَضِياًdemanding fulfillment لَهُof it
حَتّىuntil التَقَتmet حَلَقُrings البِطانِthe girth
I did not come demanding its fulfillment
That I am not here to reproach you
until the rings of the girth met.
Before our hearts are tightly bound.
