O my brother, every noble steed

Oh brother mine, every noble steed

Is not free from stumbling.

Is not without a stumble now and then,

فَاِعفُ عَن مَولودِ ذَنبي

لَعَنا شَيخِ اِعتِذاري

لَعَنا شَيخِ اِعتِذاري

So pardon the newborn of my sin

So pass my sinful foalings with excuse -

For the suffering of my apology's elder.

Our sire, I pray, will sanction my amends.

فَجَميلُ الخَمرِ يُسلي

عَن إِساءاتِ الخُمارِ

عَن إِساءاتِ الخُمارِ

For wine's delight distracts

Good wine makes sweet amends for hurt fromLove -

From the miseries of the hangover.

The grace of it outweighs the shame of sin.
