O full moon, whose face is his greeting,
O full moon whose greeting is perfect,
And bān-tree bough, whose gift gently sways him,
And whose gift is a flowering branch,
قَدindeed وَكَّلَhas assigned السَخطُdispleasure بيagainst me خَصماًan adversary يُلازِمُنيnever leaves me
قَد وَكَّلَ السَخطُ بي خَصماً يُلازِمُني
مِنَof الصَبابَةِpassionate longing ماnot تَنحَلُّcomes undone عُقدَتُهُits knot
مِنَ الصَبابَةِ ما تَنحَلُّ عُقدَتُهُ
Displeasure has set against me an adversary that never leaves me,
Anger has charged me as an obstinate adversary,
Of passionate longing, whose knot does not come undone.
With youthful follies not yet undone,
فَإِنso if جَعَلتَyou make الرِضاfavor ماwhat lies بَينَناbetween us حِكماًan arbiter
فَإِن جَعَلتَ الرِضا ما بَينَنا حِكماً
أَولاor not فَإِنِّيَthen indeed I am مِمَّنamong those who سَوفَwill يُعنِتُهُtroubles him
أَولا فَإِنِّيَ مِمَّن سَوفَ يُعنِتُهُ
So whether you make favor an arbiter between us,
If you would make contentment the judge between us,
Or not, I am among those who will trouble him.
I would be the first to obey him.
